The planting time for spring displays is generally in early autumn, between September and October. This gives them plenty of time to grow roots before the soil gets too cold. Typically, aim to plant bulbs 6 to 8 weeks before the first frost.
The only bulb that is an exception to this rule is tulips. The best time to plant tulip bulbs in pots is from early autumn. Ensure you are using fresh soil.
However, if planted in a border plant later in autumn, even early winter. This will help them avoid 'tulip fire'. A fungal disease that can stop them from flowering.
