I'm so excited to launch my Cottage Garden Bulb Collection in partnership with Crocus. Colour is at the heart of this collection - I've chosen a palette of apricot, blush, plum and creamy white that feels romantic and a little unexpected. Together they evoke the very essence of an English cottage garden awakening in spring, that particular joy when the garden stirs back to life after winter. Plant description

Bring soft spring colour and elegant contrast to beds, borders and patio pots with this beautifully balanced bulb collection. Shades of apricot, blush pink, plum and creamy white blend together to create a romantic display full of texture and seasonal charm. From goblet-shaped tulips to ruffled double blooms and densely packed hyacinth flowers, the mix creates a layered effect that carries interest through early to mid-spring.

Warm sunset tones sit beautifully alongside cooler pink and purple shades, while fragrant narcissi add brightness and freshness to the display. Taller tulips rise above the lower flowering bulbs to add natural height and structure, helping to create a full and harmonious planting scheme in borders or multiple containers.

Ideal for cottage garden styles, mixed spring borders and feature pots, this curated collection from RHS Chelsea-winning designer Jo Thompson, offers an easy way to create a polished seasonal display with colour, scent and lasting impact. Plant in naturalistic groups in autumn.

What's included:

In each collection you will receive the following bulbs:

  • 7 x Tulipa 'Apricot Impression' (PBR): Warm pink petals, which are flamed with a soft tangerine, form larger than average goblet-shaped flowers that top the tall stems. A Darwin Hybrid Group tulip, 'Apricot Impression' is ideal for bedding schemes and stands up better than most in poor weather conditions. Grows to 55cm.

  • 5 x Hyacinthus orientalis 'Gipsy Queen': Producing dense, chunky spikes of softly flushed salmon-apricot flowers held on sturdy upright stems in spring, creating a warm and eye-catching display. A firm favourite for bedding schemes, it performs reliably in pots and window boxes, while in borders its gentle tones provide a striking yet harmonious contrast against richer blues and purples. Grows to 25cm.

  • 10 x Narcissus 'Geranium': Richly scented flowers appear in clusters of up to six on top of sturdy stems in March and April. The pure white petals of Narcissus 'Geranium' contrast brilliantly with the bright orange cup. Plant in groups where they can be left undisturbed and the clumps will get bigger each year. This is also a good variety for pots. Grows to 35cm.

  • 7 x Tulipa 'Alison Bradley': In a captivating display of rich deep purplish-red, this remarkable tulip, known for its peony-shaped flowers, makes a stunning statement. Blooming from the second week of April, this sumptuous tulip proves versatile, gracing pots borders, and vases with its radiant presence well before the middle of spring. Grows to 35cm.

  • 5 x Tulipa 'Light and Dreamy': Exquisitely shaped flowers with sugar pink petals that have a lustrous blue flush on the outer edges. The colouring of of Tulipa 'Light and Dreamy' is quite distinctive, and it makes these Darwin hybrid tulips (which are excellent for cutting), very easy to blend with blue and pink shades. Grows to 60cm.

How to care for Jo Thompson's Cottage garden bulb collection:

Plant in naturalistic groups in autumn. During summer when the bulbs are dormant lift and divide groups that are becoming congested.

Plant bulbs as soon as possible after arrival into well-prepared soil or good-quality compost. Most bulbs in this collection prefer a sunny position with free-draining soil, although some plants will also tolerate light shade or slightly damper conditions. Water after planting and during prolonged dry spells, particularly for container-grown bulbs.

As a general guide, plant tulips around 15-20cm (6-8in) deep, hyacinths 10-15cm (4-6in) deep, and daffodils at approximately three times the depth of the bulb itself (typically around 10-20cm / 4-8in depending on size). Space bulbs generously to allow them room to naturalise and develop over time. Tulips are often best planted later in autumn, typically from November onwards, which can help reduce the risk of tulip fire disease.

Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering so energy can return to the bulbs for the following year. All bulbs in this collection perform well in and pots, with many returning reliably each spring once established. The tulips in this collection may perform best if lifted once the foliage has died back, then dried and stored in a cool, dry place before replanting in autumn.

Please note:

This bulb dies back after flowering each year and enters a period of rest ahead of regrowth the following season.
