A cute collection which would work well in pots as well as scattered on mass through your borders. I love the deep intense purple of the Tulipa Paul Scherer teamed up with the Tulipa White Prince and the Narcissus Sir Winston Churchill, which has the most devine scent and out of all my favourite daffodils it flowers for weeks on end. Plant description

Elegant and dramatic, this spring bulb collection combines crisp white blooms with rich, velvety dark tulips to create a striking contrast that feels both timeless and contemporary. Layered with softly ruffled narcissus flowers, the display brings depth, texture and movement to borders and patio pots, while the mix of flower shapes keeps the planting feeling natural and full throughout the season.

Flowering from early to late spring, the combination creates a refined monochrome palette with subtle touches of cream, soft citrus and smoky plum tones woven through the display. The darker tulips add bold definition amongst the lighter flowers, while the narcissus soften the overall effect with their clustered blooms and sweet fragrance, giving the planting a romantic cottage garden character with a more dramatic edge.

What's included:

In each collection you will receive the following bulbs:

  • 7 x Tulipa 'White Prince': Classically shaped white blooms, which open from bud with the palest lemon blush, and sometimes have a faint hint of pink at their petal edges, appear early in the season. Like all the 'Prince' series tulips, they are stunning when planted en masse in borders, or used to fill pots on the patio. Also, their sturdy stems mean that they can cope with poor weather conditions better than most. Grows to 35cm.

  • 10 x Narcissus 'Sir Winston Churchill': Loose clusters of creamy-white, double flowers, each flecked with orange, top the upright stems in spring. Their enchanting, slightly ruffled appearance and sweet perfume, make them perticularly popular for cutting and adding to fresh bouquets. Grows to 40cm.

  • 7 x Tulipa 'Paul Scherer': Tulip breeders have been trying for years to cultivate a variety that produces a dark purple, almost black flower on a tall stem - and here it is! The blooms of Tulipa 'Paul Scherer' are large, oval, almost egg-shaped, and sit on top of a sturdy stem in late spring. Plant in bold drifts for big impact, or tone it down with silvers and pinks. This variety has been granted the prestigious Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society. Grows to 50cm.

How to care for Lucy Willcox’s Spring border bulb collection:

Plant bulbs as soon as possible after arrival into well-prepared, free-draining soil or good-quality compost in a sunny position. This collection is suitable for both borders and containers. Water in after planting and during prolonged dry spells, especially for pots, and apply a balanced feed in spring to support strong flowering and good bulb recovery.

As a general guide, plant tulips around 15-20cm (6-8in) deep and daffodils at roughly three times the height of the bulb (typically around 10-20cm / 4-8in depending on size). In containers, ensure bulbs are not overcrowded and that pots are deep enough to allow good root development and drainage. For pots, tulips are often treated as seasonal displays and may be lifted once foliage has died back, then stored in a cool, dry place before replanting in autumn, while daffodils can usually be left to naturalise.

Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering so energy can return to the bulbs for the following year. All bulbs in this collection perform well in pots and borders, with tulips giving strong seasonal impact and daffodils returning reliably in suitable conditions.

Please note:

This bulb dies back after flowering each year and enters a period of rest ahead of regrowth the following season.
