Buy Syringa meyeri Flowerfesta White ('Anny200810') (PBR) Flowerfesta Series repeat flowering dwarf lilac: Repeat-flowering dwarf lilac.

This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, humus-rich, well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: April to May, then intermittently until October
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

One of the new breed of repeat-flowering dwarf lilacs, this impressive little plant produces its blush pink to white blooms over a really long period. The display kicks off with a great flush of flowers in mid-spring, but then it will usually continue intermittently well into the autumn. This makes it invaluable for spaces where plants really need to earn their keep - either on the terrace, the balcony or the border. Try to place it near a seating area or pathway though as the flowers have a wonderfully sweet scent.

  • Garden care: In mid-summer remove the faded flower heads carefully using secateurs to avoid damaging the young shoots. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in early spring.

Will this survive in a chalky border ?

Surrey Mel

It should be fine, provided the soils pH is not too high, and you dig in lots of composted organic matter before you plant.

What size pot should I use ?

It depends if you want to pot it up in stages or not. If you want to do it gradually, then you could pot it up into a pot around 30-40cm in diameter, otherwise you can pop it straight into a pot measuring around 60-70cm in diameter.
