Buy Physocarpus Amber Jubilee ('Jefam') (PBR) ninebark: Colourful foliage, flowers and fruit

This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: preferably acid, fertile, moist but well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: June
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Named in honour of the Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee, this exciting new shrub has very distinctive foliage colour. As they emerge in spring, the leaves are a rich salmon-orange, so these create quite a beautiful early show before they mature to green. In early summer, clusters of creamy flowers are held at the end of the branches and these are followed by burgundy fruit capsules. Very decorative, it makes an excellent addition to the mixed border.

  • Garden care: Once established, cut back up to one in four of the oldest stems to their base, after flowering. Then, apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the base of the plant.

Very pleased with this shrub. No flowers or berries yet but a very attractive plant and such a pretty colour in the spring.

Attractive, eye catching variety.

Colourful foliage tends to revert to green. Do not plant in a shady position-needs sun at least half of the day. Noticed aphid damage on one of supplied plants. Preferable recommendation is Physocarpus "Lady in Red"

Can this plant be grown in a pot / container, or is it suitable only for open ground?

John

Hello, Provided it is a reasonably large pot filled with ericaceous compost and it is kept well fed and watered it should be fine.

Is an application of bone meal a good thing for Nine Bark - Amber Jubilee right now - April 17th?

Hello there If you are planting this Physocarpus now, then this will be great to help develop the roots. Hope this helps.
