Buy Nepeta Neptune ('Bokratune’) (PBR) catmint: A compact clump of aromatic foliage.

This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: moist, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: June to September
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

If space is at a premium, but you dont want to compromise on colour, then this new catmint could be just the ticket. It forms a compact clump of aromatic foliage, which is topped in summer with upright spires of larger than average Neptune blue flowers. It's a little plant, but it will really pack a punch in pots or front of border positions.

  • Garden care: If cut back after the initial flowers have faded, this nepeta will usually go on to produce more. Lift and divide large clumps in spring, replanting divided specimens with lots of well-rotted organic matter. If powdery mildew becomes a problem prune out the affected areas.
