Buy Jasminum officinale 'Inverleith' jasmine:

This climber is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: fast-growing
  • Flowering period: June to August
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)

This award-winning jasmine will add colour and perfume to the summer garden. Its lustrous foliage appears each spring with a soft bronze flush, and soon unfurls to reveal rich green pinnate leaves, which create an attractive backdrop for the flowers. These form in clusters and when they open from the pointed, raspberry-pink buds, they have a powerful perfume, which on a still day (or evening), will fill the surrounding air. You wont want to miss out on this, so try to place it near an open window, seating area or patway if you can.

  • Garden care: After flowering remove old and overcrowded shoots. Prune hard in autumn to keep it within bounds, but be warned that flowering will be retarded the following year.
