Buy Achillea millefolium 'Pomegranate' (Tutti Frutti Series) yarrow: Holds its flower colour well

This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: well-drained, non-acidic
  • Rate of Growth: fast-growing
  • Flowering period: May to August
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Noted for its uniform and prolonged flowering period, this bushy yarrow will certainly liven things up in a sunny border. Unlike many of the others, it holds its flower colour well, and as it is relatively compact, it is also excellent in pots. 'Pomegranate' is perfect too for the wildlife garden, as it will attract many beneficial insects, including bees, butterflies and hoverflies.

  • Garden care: Protect from slugs. Stake using twiggy stems before the flowers appear. Cut back after first flowering to encourage a secondary flush in late summer/early autumn. Old clumps can be revived by lifting, splitting and replanting in spring.

I bought this plant to use on a raised terrace garden at the back of a border, and it worked just fine.I was really happy with the performance last summer considering this was the first year.As usual from Crocus the plant arrived in very good condition and well packaged, with full instructions. This is one of 3 that I bought and they are all excellent.

A brilliant achillea - lovely true colour and bloomed all summer despite the wettest of Scottish summers. Planted it out in April and was still flowering into November when I finally cut it back. Highly recommend this plant.

Will these 9Cm survive outdoors now in December or should they remain indoors? Many thanks

Hals

Yes, these plants are fully hardy, so should be planted straight out in the garden. One thing that should be avoided however is excessive winter wet.
