Miscanthus sinensis ‘Spiral Flame’ forms tidy, fountain-like clumps with arching green leaves that blaze orange-red in autumn, bringing warmth and drama to borders, containers, or alongside pathways.
In late summer, the foliage is topped by pinkish-red plumes that gradually mature to silvery-white, persisting well into winter and adding structure and texture when most other plants have faded. Its upright, clump-forming habit makes it perfect for creating natural screens, softening hard edges, or adding a sculptural touch to mixed plantings.
Thriving in full sun and moderately fertile, well-drained soil, this hardy ornamental grass is low-maintenance and drought-tolerant once established. Minimal care is required—just cut back old foliage in late winter to make way for fresh spring growth.

When planting, choose a site in full sun, incorporating organic matter to improve drainage and soil structure.
Water newly planted grasses regularly in their first summer; after that, they become better adapted to dry conditions in open ground. Lift and divide clumps every five years to maintain vigour.
For container-grown Miscanthus, water regularly in summer to prevent drying out. Leave top growth standing through winter and cut back to ground in late February as new shoots emerge.
