Buy Tilia cordata 'Greenspire' small-leaved lime 'Greenspire': A magnificent specimen tree

This tree is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: moist but well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average to fast
  • Flowering period: July
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Making a handsome specimen with its dense conical crown of rounded dark green foliage, this tree looks wonderful when used to line a longer driveway or grand entranceway. In midsummer it produces tiny ivory-yellow flowers, which are sweetly scented and very attractive to bees (and other pollinators) - and these are followed by small nut-like fruits.

  • Garden care: Avoid very dry conditions and keep out of strong winds. Limes prefer alkaline to neutral soil, but they will tolerate acidic soil. It requires minimal pruning, but do remove any broken, diseased or crossing branches in late autumn or winter when it is completely dormant. When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole.
