Buy Salvia nemerosa Crystal Blue (Color Spires Series) Balkan clary: Mix really well with stronger purples, plums and most shades of pink.

This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: light, moderately fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: July to September
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Closely related to the ever-popular 'Caradonna', this new decorative sage shares similar characteristics to its cousin - apart from the unique colour of its flowers, which are a rich sky blue. They will mix really well with stronger purples, plums, most shades of pink and even silvers.

  • Garden care: To prolong flowering remove the flower spikes as soon as they start to fade. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in spring.

Lovely pale blue salvia

Good sturdy salvia with lovely pale blue flowers. Deadhead for further smaller flowers.

A great new salvia

A great new salvia for bringing a pale blue shade to the front of a sunny border. Tinged with violet this matches well with plants like clematis mrs cholmondeley and contrasts with yellows and pinks. Flowered from late May until October in my small London garden in 2018. Constantly visited by bees when in flower.
