This tree is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.
- Position: full sun
- Soil: moist, well-drained, fertile soil
- Rate of growth: fast-growing
- Flowering period: March to April
- Hardiness: fully hardy
Masses of single white flowers appear between March and April with a heady, almond-like fragrance. 'Shidare Yoshino' is well suited to small spaces; its pendulous branches with fresh bronze coloured foliage becoming dark green and and finishing with flame-like autumn colours before leaf fall. - Garden care: Plant 'Shidare Yoshino' as soon as conditions allow (avoiding frozen and waterlogged soil). Choose a sheltered spot to protect emerging blossom. Incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Lightly prune in summer to retain the shape.
