Buy Lophomyrtus × ralphii 'Magic Dragon' (PBR) Lophomyrtus: Colourful evergreen foliage

  • Position: partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: fast-growing
  • Flowering period: June to July
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (will need winter protection)

This is an attractive evergreen shrub, with colourful foliage that will make a great year-round specimen in a large pot or sheltered shrub border. The small oval leaves are a lovely blend of burgundy, cream and pink, so they offer a good contrast to shrubs with plainer green foliage. When mature small white flowers with a delicate scent appear from early summer.

  • Garden care: Remove dead, diseased or misplaced branches in late winter or early spring. Offer winter protection in cold or exposed positions and avoid overwatering during the colder months.

Delightful eye catching shrub

This evergreen bush is attractive all year. The foliage is fabulous and comes into its own when other plants have faded in the winter months so soon becomes a favorite. Works well with many other plants and seems to keep a good shape with minimal pruning required. It's relatively slow growing, and so far has proved easy to keep to the required size.

Hi, would this be ok in a container and if so what sort of compost mix would you recommend? Thanks.

Jane

Hello, Yes, this will do well in a large pot filled with John Innes No.2, provided it can be kept well fed and watered.
