Buy Erodium reichardii 'Album' heron's bill: Low growing and summer flowering

This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: gritty, humus-rich, sharply-drained, neutral to alkaline soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: June to September
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Forming a mound of attractively scalloped, dark green foliage, this low-growing groundcover, also produces rounded white flowers, which are laced with magenta-red veins. It makes an attractive addition to an alpine or rock garden, and can also be use to add summer colour to a sunny patio or border edge.

  • Garden care: Avoid waterlogged conditions (particularly in winter), and divide congested colonies in spring.
