Buy Epimedium grandiflorum 'Lilafee' grandiflorum: Profusion of large lilac flowers

This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: partial shade
  • Soil: humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: slow-growing
  • Flowering period: April to May
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Sprays of tiny lilac-purple spring flowers suspended on delicate, wiry stems above bronze-flushed, light-green leaves. This elegant, deciduous foliage plant is perfect for a lightly shaded site, with moist soil. Handsome leaves resembling lopsided hearts look lovely at the front of a shady border or growing next to woodland plants.

  • Garden care: In early spring remove dead and damaged leaves before the flowers appear and apply a thick mulch of compost or well rotted compost around the crown of the plant. Lift and divide large clumps in autumn.

Lovely little flower

I bought quite a few Epimediums last Autumn and thought I'd lost them all to the continuous rain we had over the winter. However, over the last week or two they have all reappeared, hidden under some bluebells that I have now removed (hopefully) and are looking very pretty in the shady dry border.

Love this plant and cannot wait to see it bloom this year again. Love the Crocus site and how it shows the height of the flowers against a human which gives you a much clearer picture of the overall height and breadth the plant will achieve. My favourite site!!
