Buy peach 'Avalon Pride' peach Avalon Pride: The most resistant peach to leaf curl

This plant is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: deep, moist but well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: slow growing
  • Flowering period: April to May
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)

Currently the most resistant variety to peach leaf curl available, 'Avalon Pride' also tends to be less susceptible to frost damage than many of the other peaches. The large orange-red fruits are mouth-wateringly juicy, and have a delicious flavour, while the pink flowers, which appear in the spring, look divine. It's happiest in a sunny, sheltered spot.

  • Garden care: When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Prune in summer to reduce the risk of silver leaf and bacterial canker.
