Buy Erica × darleyensis 'Ghost Hills' winter heath heather: Great year-round groundcover

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: well-drained acidic soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: Febuary to April
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

An evergreen groundcovering plant, that has the added bonus of producing an abundance of pinkish purple flowers from late winter to mid-spring. These not only look good, but will also provide a vital source of early nectar for bees and other pollinators. A tough little plant, which once established will take drought in its stride.

  • Garden care: During the growing season water regularly, applying a half-strength application of a balanced liquid fertiliser every four weeks. After the plant has flowered trim with shears or secateurs to remove the dead flowers and encourage bushy growth.

I would always buy plants from Crocus

Crocus plants are always well packed and of good quality. I would certainly recommend.

How long will it take to grow to full size from 9cm pot?

Following a year of establishment, I would estimate the plant would achieve maturity and the heights specified within ten years. If you wanted to increase the impact and achieve a result sooner you could plant in odd groups of 3 or 5 and they will merge to form what looks to be a single mature plant sooner (7-8 years)
