The plants in this collection will die right back in autumn, then fresh new growth will appear again in spring.

By encouraging pollinating insects into the garden, you are not only doing your bit for the environment, but you could also be helping the plants produce more flowers.

In this collection you will receive one of each of the following varieties, each in a 9cm pot.

  • Echinacea purpurea 'Vintage Wine' (PBR)
An unusual variety of coneflower with scented, deep pink flowers that have shorter, stiffer petals than other varieties, and deep brown central cones. This cheerful, daisy-like echinacea flowers from midsummer through to autumn. It is a tough plant that does not need staking and it makes an excellent cut flower. Like other coneflowers, it is long-flowering and will cope well with adverse weather conditions, except drought. Try it dotted through a sunny, mixed border or in bold drifts among grasses. It is attractive to bees and butterflies and birds will flock to the seedheads. Grows to 90cm.

  • Euphorbia epithymoides
Dark green, lance-shaped leaves are topped with a froth of bright, acid yellow spring flowers that form a distinctive star shape. This perennial, early flowering euphorbia has a natural mounded shape and a short flowering season, but looks lovely as part of a green and yellow planting scheme or with dark red flowers and bronze-tinted grasses. In autumn the foliage turns a lovely shade of bronze. Grows to 40cm.

  • Agastache 'Blue Boa' (PBR)
This new form is dependably hardy to -5C and produces its fattened spikes of deep violet-blue flowers, which help attract beneficial insects, from early summer to mid-autumn. The rich green foliage has a licorice-like aroma when gently bruised. Grows to 60cm.

  • Penstemon 'Raven'
Elegant spikes of small, tubular, foxglove-like flowers appear from July to October among lance-shaped, bright green leaves. This easy-to-grow perennial will quickly form large, leafy clumps and is perfect for adding a splash of colour to the middle of a sunny, well-drained border. If you deadhead regularly, the flowers will persist until the first frosts. The rich, deep purple flowers of this variety contrast particularly well with purples and acid greens. Grows to 1m.

  • Planting tips: Prepare the bed well by digging in lots of composted organic matter before you plant. For best results it is essential that the plants are kept well watered for the first year, particularly during warmer weather.
