Buy Nerine bowdenii 'Ostara K' nerine bulb: Palest pink autumn blooms

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained
  • Rate of growth: average to fast
  • Flowering period: September to November
  • Hardiness: borderline hardy (may need winter protection)
  • Bulb size: 12+

One of the hardier forms, this beautiful nerine should survive outside all year round in sheltered gardens, provided the soil is not too heavy and wet. Their ruffled, shell-pink flowers are a delight, and they appear very late in the season adding some much-needed colour. In colder areas, they are best grown in a pot, so they can be overwintered in a cool greenhouse.

  • Garden care: Plant shallowly outside with their neck just above the surface of the soil at 10-15cm intervals from April onwards. They are happiest in a dense clump, so once planted avoid disturbing the roots and only lift and divide them when they have outgrown their allotted space.

  • CAUTION do not eat ornamental bulbs

Notes on Nerine bowdenii 'Ostara K'

"Plant nerine bulbs in April and they will flower in late-autumn. Garden forms are listed under the name Nerine bowdenii. These are South African, despite their common name of Guernsey Lily, and they need good light and warmth."

Planted but disappeared

Don't know what happened to these bulbs. Planted as instructed but they failed to grow.

What Katy planted

Have planted nerines in a pot but pot is quite large. What can I plant in the same pot for spring/summer interest that likes the same conditions as nerines....don't want to rot the bulbs etc

I would avoid overcrowding them, but you could plant either of the following to add a bit of summer colour... Erigeron Geranium
