Buy Camassia leichtlinii subsp. suksdorfii 'Alba' camassia bulbs: Spires of pure white flowers

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: moist but well-drained, fertile, humus-rich soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: May
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)
  • Bulb size: 12/14

Tall spires of creamy-white, star-shaped flowers appear above strap-like leaves in late spring and early summer. Originally from damp meadowlands in North America, this bulbous perennial is perfect for naturalising in a wildflower meadow. It will happily grow in moist soil in sun or partial shade as long as the soil doesn't become waterlogged. Take advantage of its brief flowering season to brighten up a border before summer perennials take over. Or plant in a border that is backed by a tall hedge, where the  dark foliage will show the flowers off.

  • Garden care: Plant the bulbs 8cm deep and 20cm apart in big groups in the autumn. Try to plant them where they will remain undisturbed for several years as they resent being moved. In cold areas, apply a generous layer of mulch in autumn.

  • CAUTION do not eat ornamental bulbs

Notes on Camassia leichtlinii subsp. suksdorfii 'Alba'

"A long-stemmed, ivory-white spire best seen against a dark contrast - like yew - to pick up the cool-green buds and anthers on the large stars which lighten early summer."

A real showgirl!

This was there second year and flowered later than the blue Camassia, and flowered for quite some weeks. They had also increased from last year was is an added bonus. For a tall Spring flower that needs no stalking and little care you cannot go wrong with the Camassia family.

Beautiful spring flower.I already had it in blue.

Beautiful spring display.

A very pretty plant when it flowers

A very pretty plant when it flowers . The flowering didn't last for more than a couple of weeks but I think it is my gardening skills (or lack of) rather than the product . I look forward to it's flowering next year in the spring time.

I would recommend this product

These were lovely last year planted in large pots. They are just beginning to show again and am looking forward to warmer weather to bring them on and into flower.

Early Summer Colour (May)

Easy to plant. Requires staking - but stakes mark where bulbs are when dormant so can be left undisturbed. All three bulbs flowered 2017. Gave height and white flowers in area before white delphiniums flowered - which is what I wanted. Bees seemed interested too. Strong plant - no damage from slugs, fungus, wee beasties etc. Hopefully be the same this year. Never had a problem ordering from Crocus; great to use for items you cannot get at local garden center and for browsing through on line to get ideas.
