When to plant daffodil bulbs

  • The golden rule to plant spring flowering bulbs is autumn time. This is in early autumn, no later than mid-September for quality daffodil bulbs. This allows bulbs plenty of time to develop strong root systems. Early planting also guarantees the cold snap they need to flower.

If you miss your window, you can plant them in January if the ground is soft enough. However, later planting can reduce flowering, and you might have to wait another year to see them.
