Lovely fragrant climber

Plant arrived healthy and well looked after. It suffered a little a couple of months into its new home but that was probably my fault - the weather was warm and dry and I probably didn't water it for long enough after planting. It is, however, now we'll established and thriving.

Slow grower, but steady. Evergreen, fragrant in summer.

I bought quite a large plant in the sale - seems expensive doing that (I usually wait and let things grow in situ), but I'm glad as it's slow-growing. This will be a good thing eventually as I don't want to be hacking it back all the time. Lovely fragrance. The leaves turn an attractive red in winter, giving welcome colour.

WOW!

Absolutely fantastic! We already have one other jasmine, which being 4 years old is very big. We wanted another of the same variety as we have built/extended our screening area between the us and the neighbours. Having looked around all the local garden centres we were disappointed with the size, quality and price. Crocus have excelled themselves, today a beautiful, healthy and very flowery star jasmine has been delivered! Advertised as 160cm, it actually measures 190cm tall and is absolutely dripping in flowers that smell devine! Two very strong main stems with plenty of branches off. So very, very happy. Not only with the plant itself but the great service and communication regarding my order. I can't wait to get it planted and watch it bush out like our other jasmine. Just fantastic. Will definitely be ordering more plants. Many thanks!!!

I'd like to buy some of these to act as a screen on my balcony railings, and something nice to look out to from the living room. I'm thinking of getting some balcony planters to hook/attach on top of the balcony rail and these to then grow down- do you think that will work or would I be better having these in plant pots on the balcony and grow them up the railings? Or would I need to lean a trellis on the balcony for them to grow up? And how do I figure out which size I should buy?

HVP

These plants do get quite large in time, and while I have seen them growing in large pots, ultimately they will be much happier if planted in the ground. Therefore, I would not recommend using them on your balcony.

Helen

If this is climbing up a wall will I need a trellis?

JoLy

Yes, the stems of this climber are twining, so they will need something to cling to.

Helen

Hi, when would be the best time (of year) to plant this please?

HGC

It really depends on where you live. If you live in a colder part of the country, or if your soil remains heavy and wet throughout the winter, then it would be better to plant this in spring. If your garden is more sheltered, then you can plant at any time of the year.

Helen

is this plant suitable for training up a pergola in full sun? I would like to create a dining area underneath .

Lolly

Hello, Yes, this looks lovely covering an arch or pergola.

I am looking to buy Trachelospermum jasminoides star jasmine 5L (1.6L) to plant them in your rectangular planter. I am not sure about the size of the planter between Large (88cm large and 28cm depth) and Extra large (100cmn and 40cm depth). I do not want too big for my small garden but I want to make sure it is big enough to grow. Do you think the Jasmine 5L would fit into the large rectangular planter (88cm long, 28cm deep)?

Albane

Hello, Initially the trachelospermum will be very happy in the large size, but as they get very big, it will start to feel the squeeze - even in the extra large. A much better option for the plant (and less intrusive for your garden) would be to lift a paving slab and plant it directly into the ground.
