Russian Snowdrops Russian snowdrop bulbs: Sprays of softest blue bells

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: most well-drained soils
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: March to April
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

At roughly the same time in spring, the strappy upright(ish) foliage appears, almost seeming to stand guard at each side of the emerging flowerspike. This spike carries up to 10 near-white flowers, which often have a faint blue stripe down the length of each petal. It is very pretty when intermingled with cyclamen or fritillaria (the snake's head type), but avoid overcrowding as they like their space, and will naturalise areas under trees and shrubs if left undisturbed. They do well in pots too.

  • Garden care: Plant 5-10cm deep and a similar distance apart in autumn. Leave undisturbed and they will form good-sized clumps.

  • Humans/Pets: Ornamental bulbs - not to be eaten

Yes I would buy them again

I put them in a pot along with my crocus and mini daffodil's on the patio so I can see them from my kitchen window.

A little gem

Great bulbs

Planted these in a 'bulb lasagne' with mascara and small white tulips and they were lovely.

Stunning naturaliser

These are so reliable: I have them around the edges of large pots that have Hostas all summer. Every Spring they appear as tiny buds and leaves that grow and grow (although not very tall at all) until they fill the edges of the pots that would otherwise be bare and uninteresting. They clump up very quickly and seem to be happy with very little. Slug free too!! I have transplanted large clumps to edge any plot needing a bit of a buzz in Spring and they really seem to adapt anywhere.
