Buy Malus toringo 'Scarlett' crab apple: Fragrant deep pink flowers appear in mid-spring followed by purple fruits

This tree is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: April to May
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Fragrant, dusky-pink flowers appear in mid-spring followed by small, deep red crab apples later in the year. 'Scarlett' is a spreading, deciduous tree with arching branches. Rich purple, glossy, lobed foliage turns glossy green as summer progresses with fiery tints of red and yellow in the autumn.

  • Garden care: Plant 'Scarlett' as soon as conditions allow (avoiding frozen and waterlogged soil). Choose a sheltered spot to protect emerging blossom. Incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Remove dead, diseased and crossing branches while the tree is dormant.
