Agapanthus africanus & pot combination
- Position: full sun
- Compost: a good soil-based compost such as John Innes No.3
- Rate of growth: average
- Flowering period: July to September
- Hardiness: half hardy (will need protection in winter)
This sun-loving perennial will look great on the patio, particularly when potted up into their new home. Currently in a 2lt pot, they will arrive with a hand-thrown flared rim terracotta pot, which measures 40 x 40cm, so gives them ample room to grow on and fill out.
The potting compost is not supplied, but a loam-based compost such as John Innes No. 3 is recommended.
Keep them well-watered during the growing season, applying a balanced liquid fertiliser each month from spring to late summer. Then, in September, gradually ease back on the feeding and watering, allowing the plants foliage to toughen up. By mid-autumn, stop feeding altogether, and only water sparingly throughout the winter.
