Buy Pond clear Barley straw tub Algae cleaning for ponds: helps control algae growth

Place this tub in your pond and the natural barley straw it contains will help keep the water algae-free. One tub is sufficient to treat up to 2,000 gallons of water, so if you have a larger pond you may need more than one. Barley straw is completely safe for fish and can last up to 6 months depending on the amount of algae you have in your pond. Also, after the barley straw has done its job, the tub can be lifted and used as a planting basket for marginal aquatics at the edges of the pond.

Very impressed, so far at least...

I've just had my pond cleaned so most duck weed/algae had been got rid of by the time I put the barley box in. But I know from previous experience that the weed/algae would normally come back straight away, and intensive skimming would be needed. However, 2 weeks later and it's still clear andI haven't skimmed anything. One or two rogue pieces of duckweed survived the cleaning (as is always the case), and usually these would have multiplied by now - but no, not this time, and I can't even see those bits anymore. I read the negative reviews here, and think that the product is only good for prevention - and I guess that's what it says on the box! I would recommend it very much, at least so far. It blends in remarkably well and if you have plants it should be able to be hidden easily. NB I have no agenda!

Not sure it's made a difference

I bought this to help reduce algae and turn the pond from light green back to see through. It has been in the pond for some months but I have to see I can see no major difference. Am now having to resort to an organic water based solution.

Very disappointing product

1

Very disappointing product and highly over priced.( a small pierced plastic box containing a small bundle of barley straw) I purchased one container for a modest sized garden pond to help control duckweed, and put it in place 3 weeks ago. It simply has had no effect, the duck weed is now far worse. It comes with a high coloured plastic coated promotional cover on the top surface, which is incredibly difficult to remove.

very disappointing product

I purchased one of these, for a very small pond. So far (two weeks) it has had no effect at all on the duck weed. it comes with a laminated high colour covering over the top of the tub. This proved incredibly difficult to remove. Took 20 minutes, resulting in broken nails. Even boilng water would not shift it. Although I can see it might take a little time to get results, I am not optimistic. It seems to be massively over- priced. Basically a small plastic tub with a handfull of straw inside. Not impressed

Adding plants to your pond

Most pond plants are easy to grow and require little maintenance other than the occasional tidy up to remove tired-looking foliage or fading flowerheads, but for a pond to be relatively easy to look after you have to choose varieties that suit the size of
