- Achillea 'Credo': Flat, plate-like heads of yellow flowers, which fade to cream as they mature, are held high on tall stems above the fern-like foliage. This achillea will become drought-tolerant as it matures, and the flowers last well in cut arrangements. Grows to 1.2m.
- Perovskia 'Blue Spire': With its aromatic leaves and upright spikes of violet-blue flowers, Russian sage makes a wonderful companion to all kinds of late-summer ornamental grasses and perennials. This deciduous sub-shrub makes a real impact planted en masse alongside a path. Grows to 1.2m.
- Planting tips:Incorporate lots of well-rotted leaf mould or garden compost when planting. Protect young plants from slug-damage using environmentally friendly slug pellets or beer traps and keep them well watered until they are well established.
Simple combintions are often extremely effective - like this yellow and blue one, which will give several weeks of colour from midsummer, well into autumn.
