Buy Malus sieboldii 'Aros' crab apple: Stunning new purple-leaved crab apple

This tree is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: slow
  • Flowering period: April
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

This stunning new variety of crab apple recently bred in Denmark has already been winning awards. The dark purple-pink flowers light up the tree in spring are set off beautifully by the dark purple-black foliage which emerges around the same time. The leaves remain dark all season though can take on a hint of green as they age. From late summer small dark maroon crab apples appear and can persist well into the autumn. With a compact upright habit this is a super variety for growing in a large patio pot or in the garden.

  • Garden care: When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Removed dead, diseased and crossing branches while the tree is dormant.

Hello, Yes, this tends to do well in a large pot - provided it is kept well fed and watered.
