Royal blue flowers, that have a central yellow mark on each fall, push up through the soil in late winter, often through a carpet of snow. These low-growing, early-blooming bulbs are perfect for adding a touch of colour in gravel gardens or alpine beds. They also look very sweet in containers, where they can be admired up close on a sunny patio.

  • Garden care: Plant bulbs 5cm deep in the autumn in a sunny spot in well-drained soil. Water moderately while they are actively growing and feed with a general purpose fertiliser. Keep reasonably dry during their dormant period.
