Crocus combinations
Shade lovers plant combination
- Geranium 'Patricia': Low growing mounds of dark green leaves topped with magenta flowers. This geranium is a sterile hybrid of Geranium psilostemon and has an exceptionally long flowering period. In autumn the deeply cut, dark green leaves turn fabulous shades of red. An excellent plant for the middle of a border. Grows to 60cm
- Digitalis grandiflora: Acting as a magnet to bees, the yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers that appear on the upright flowerspikes from early summer add vertical movement to the planting scheme. Ideally suited to the woodland edge, they also make wonderful additions to the herbaceous border. Grows to 1m.
- Geranium 'Orion': A bigger geranium, which is covered with clear violet-blue flowers, with red veining and a white centre, throughout the summer. Its spreading habit makes it ideal for quick growing, summer groundcover. Grows to 80cm.
- Planting tips:Prepare the bed well by digging in lots of composted organic matter before you plant. For best results it is essential that the plants are kept well watered for the first year, particularly during warmer weather.
