Sweetly scented, star-shaped, white flowers from June to August, followed by decorative seed-heads. This fragrant, herbaceous clematis is ideal for the middle or back of a mixed border. The purple foliage, turning green as the plant matures, is valuable for flower arrangements. Support the slender stems with pea or hazel sticks.

  • Garden care: In early spring cut back the previous year's stems to a pair of strong buds about 15-20cm (6-8in) above ground-level and apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the plant, avoiding the immediate crown.
