Opening from late winter to early spring, these low-growing squills look great edging a path or forming clumps throughout the front of the border, where they will provide an early blaze of colour. They also make excellent potted plants. Try underplanting them with bulbs that flower later in the season such as daffodils and tulips to create a display with a long period of interest. From a distance the flowers look white, but on closer inspection you can see that each flower is the palest shade of blue, and that each petal has a darker blue stripe running through it.
- Garden care:
Plant bulbs 8 - 10cm deep and 8 - 10cm apart in autumn, in clumps or naturalistic drifts where they can remain undisturbed for several years.
