Installing a mowing strip

Cut down the time you spend mowing by adding a permanent edge to your lawn. Edging a lawn every week is very time consuming and hard work if you have a large area of grass. However, by adding a simple mowing strip you can practically eliminate the job altogether. Dig out a shallow trench along the edge of your lawn about 7.5cm deeper than the paving material you intend to use. Place a 7.5cm layer of dry concrete mix into the trench and roughly level with a rake. Lay the paving on top of the concrete foundations, tapping them into position so that they are level with the previous block and the lawn. Leave for the dry concrete to absorb moisture from the soil and set hard. Then point the gaps between the blocks as you would bricks in a wall. Fill any gaps between the lawn and the edging strip with sieved garden soil and reseed if necessary. You will then be able to run your lawnmower right over the edge trimming the grass as you mow
