Lesser periwinkle & hanging plant cage - wide combination

Larger than average, salverform flowers form in the leaf axils of the slender stems. Their lavender-blue colouring mixes well with most shades of pink, purple and blue, while the plant's prostrate habit lends itself perfectly to cascading containerised displays. To that end, we have created this combination which includes three 9cm pots of lesser periwinkle and our wide hanging plant cage.
Pack the base with moss or another natural fibre and top up with rich soil just like a regular basket, and feed the plants in through the open sides. Cage measures Ø30cm x H46cm.

Use a loam-based compost to pot up the periwinkles included, ensuring good drainage and consistent moisture. Position the hanging cage in partial shade or dappled sunlight. Water regularly while the plants establish and during warm spells, allowing excess water to drain freely but avoiding complete drying out.
After flowering, lightly trim back trailing stems to keep a neat shape and encourage new growth. Remove any damaged or straggly shoots through the season.
Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser to support healthy growth and continuous flowering. Each year, divide and replant sections of the periwinkle to refresh the display, using the extra material to plant up additional pots or to establish ground cover in the garden.
