Please note that the pot in the photograph is not supplied with the plant (which is sent out in a simple nursery pot). They do however make excellent potted plants, and if you wish to pot yours up, we do have a wide range of pots on our website to choose from.

  • Position: partial to full shade
  • Soil: moderately fertile, moist but well-drained neutral to acidic soil, or ericaceous compost
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: April to May
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

When our buyers saw this plant on one of their trips to Holland recently, they thought it was the best looking skimmia they had ever seen. Not only was the foliage a lustrous rich green, but it was chock full of shiny berries - loads more than you see on your average female skimmia, and all an intense rich red. These berries are said to last longer on the plant too - sometimes even into spring. Keep in mind though, to get all these wonderful berries, it must have a male skimmia nearby to cross-pollinate with ('Kew Green', 'Rubella' or 'Fragrans' would be ideal).

  • Garden care: Lightly trim after flowering, if necessary. To improve the moisture retention qualities of the soil add plenty of well-rotted compost when planting.
