Buy Rubus Groovy ('Jdeboer005') (PBR) yellow raspberry: Delicious fruit and golden foliage

This plant is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: fast-growing
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

The near-thornless stems of this new raspberry are laden with tasty and sweet, bright red fruit, which are offset by the golden yellow foliage. A naturally compact and bushy form, it can be grown in a pot on the patio or balcony, but its ornamental appeal means that it can also be grown in a mixed border. A primocane raspberry, it will fruit on new wood in its first year, so you will be harvesting the delicious summer fruits in no time.

  • Garden care: Find a sunny spot and prepare a bed by clearing it of weeds and digging in lots of composted manure. Alternatively pot up using a good soil-based compost. Feed during the growing season with a general purpose fertiliser and water regularly during the summer. You may need to protect the ripening fruit from being eaten by birds. Cut back all the canes to just above ground level each February.

Planted in a raised bed but foliage pretty enough to plant in a border. Lovely healthy plants and was still picking fruit late into autumn

Can anyone tell me what size pot these should be palnted in? Thanks

Dotty

There are no hard and fast rules as you could pot up in stages. If however you decide to put it into its forever home (pot) straight away, then I would opt for something at least 45-50cm in diameter.
