Buy Milium effusum 'Aureum' Bowles' golden grass: Brightens up a dark corner

This grass is semi-evergreen, so it can lose some of its foliage in winter. In colder regions or more exposed gardens, it may lose it all, but then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: partial shade
  • Soil: humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: slow growing
  • Flowering period: May to July
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

A brilliant plant for a shady spot, this semi-evergreen grass gets going in early spring, and forms a rich, yellow mound which matures to a bright green. Delicate golden flowers form a haze in summer. Plant at the edge of a shady border, or in groups as part of a woodland planting scheme.

  • Garden care: Divide in spring if clumps start to look tatty.

Lovely plant

Put this in a dull, corner and it really brightens it up. It has grown more than I expected in its first year. It is still green in January.

The plants arrived well packaged and looking healthy. I planted them within a week and they are doing very well. No problems at all.

Pretty colour but finicky

This is a gorgeous lime green and a great contrast plant. It does however seem extremely slow growing and a bit fragile. Mine has never really got going in 2 years, still small and a bit spindly. Am hoping for a burst of energetic growth from it this summer.

Sadly one plant was damaged in transit despite the excellent packaging. However, this was quickly replaced with no problems at all. Highly delighted.
