Buy Hydrangea paniculata Graffiti ('Rou201406') (PBR) hydrangea:

This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: moist, well-drained, moderately fertile, humus-rich soil
  • Rate of growth: fast-growing
  • Flowering period: July to October
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

The large and chunky, cone-shaped flowerheads of this undemanding shrub are initially a soft lime green, but as the season progresses, they start to develop pink tints. This intensifies through the summer, so by the end of autumn, they have mainly turned raspberry-pink, with just a flush of green. Their stout stems make them excellent for cutting, and they can be used in both fresh or dried arrangements.

  • Garden care: To enhance flowering prune hard in early spring, cutting back the previous season's shoots to within a few buds of the permanent, woody framework of the plant.
