Charming, low-growing perennials that produce their attractive, anemone-like flowers in early spring. Originating from wooded slopes in temperate regions of the northern hemisphere, they will make superb additions to pots, partially shaded rock gardens or the woodland floor. They prefer moist but well-drained heavy soils, which are humus-rich and have a slightly acidic, neutral or slightly alkaline pH. Hepaticas resent being moved, so try to plant them where they can remain undisturbed for several years and mulch with a generous layer of leafmould or compost in autumn or immediately after flowering.

In each collection you will receive one plant of each of the following cultivars.

Hepatica 'Forest Purple' (Forest Series)Exquisite, rich purple, bowl-shaped flowers top slender stems in early spring, usually as the round or slightly lobed foliage is emerging. A very rare and unusual plant, it should be planted out in a partially shaded spot, preferably somewhere you can admire it on a regular basis.

Hepatica 'Forest Red' (Forest Series)Bright magenta coloured flowers with a paler reverse, top upright stems in early spring. They look magnificent when allowed to form good-sized clumps, particularly when planted in association with other spring-flowering woodlanders. Very hard to find in the UK, we are expecting this wonderful perennial to be snapped up by avid plant collectors.

Hepatica 'Forest White' (Forest Series)Pure white petals surround a prominent boss of pinkish stamens, creating very pretty, bowl-shaped flowers, which appear with the new foliage in early spring. Plant them in bold drifts to help illuminate a woodland floor or dapple them throughout a shady rockery. These pretty perennials are incredibly hard to come by though, so are perfect for those who have a penchant for rare plants.

    • Garden care: Hepaticas resent being moved, so try to plant them where they can remain undisturbed for several years. Apply a generous layer of mulch in autumn or immediately after flowering.
