Buy Gaura lindheimeri Freefolk Rosy ('Harrfolk') (PBR) gaura: A new variegated picotee form

This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, moist but well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average to fast-growing
  • Flowering period: May to September
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Pink-edged creamy white flowers form in airy panicles, that sway and flutter in the breeze above the cream, green and purple variegated foliage. A beautiful new addition, that looks sublime when teamed with ornamental grasses. It is not too big either, so will also be quite happy in a pot provided it is kept well watered.

  • Garden care: Resist the temptation to cut back after the plant has flowered, as it often takes on beautiful autumn tints, particularly in cold weather. Cut back and divide large colonies in spring.

Gentle plant

These plants live in a south facing border, many flowers on each stem. Summer plant, now December 19th and some flowers are still open. And I live in East Yorkshire, with clay soil. The stems are slight so they have a tendency to flop - I'm using triple ring supports (two uprights, 3 spaced rings). I'm not allowed to tell you where I got the supports but they really were a bargain for the home. Next summer they will add greatly to the mounds of dianthus in front of them.
