Buy Euphorbia cornigera spurge: Large, long-lasting flowerheads

This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained garden soil
  • Rate of growth: fast growing
  • Flowering period: June to August
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (will need protection in colder areas)

Upright stems appear each spring, clothed with fresh green foliage - and topped with small clusters of bright, yellowish-green flowers throughout the summer. Tolerant of lightly dappled shade, it's ideal for adding a bright shot of colour to herbaceous borders, but it also works well in more naturalised planting schemes. Try mixing it with rich purples and plums for real pizazz.

  • Garden care: In autumn cut back the faded flower stems. When working with spurges always wear gloves since the milky sap is poisonous and a potential skin irritant.

  • CAUTION toxic if eaten/skin & eye irritant
