Buy Bellis 'Bellissima' 40 plus 20 FREE plug plants: Very sweet in pots and windowboxes

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: well-drained, moderately fertile soil (or loam-based potting compost John Innes No1 for container-grown specimens)
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: September to November and again February to April
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)

Masses of pink, scarlet and white, pom-pom like flowers appear in autumn and again in spring above the spoon-shaped bright green leaves. This beautiful and long-flowering mixture of daisies will flower best in full sun although it will also tolerate partial shade. Compact and neat, they're perfect for edging spring displays in windowboxes, patio containers, borders and paths.

Grown in individual plug cells, each plant measures about 4 - 6cm tall (from the base of the root to the top of the plant). They are ideal for keen gardeners who have a greenhouse where the plants can be grown on until they are ready for planting out in the garden.

Please note: We grow these especially for you, so we do request that full payment is made when you place your order. See above for despatch dates. To ensure that your plants arrive in the best possible condition each pack will be despatched individually. Please also be aware that the planter in the photograph is not included.

Garden care: Pinch out the growing tips to encourage bushier growth and keep well watered. Feed with a good, high potash fertiliser (such as Tomorite) on a regular basis and pinch off the spent flowerheads to encourage more to form.

Brilliant little plants

Bought these plants on special offer, planted in Autumn. They bravely had a few flowers throughout this snowy winter but now the spring is here they have burst into life, covered in pretty, colourful blooms

Can these plants be planted outside straight away, and do they return annually.

We recommend that these should be grown on under glass until they are ready for planting out in the garden, but sadly, they will not come back year after year.

If you do nothing else...water new plants. Make sure new additions do not suffer during dry spells. Plant up summer containers bedding once the threat of frosts has passed. Feed container plants about six weeks after planting. If it’s a nice day...trim he

Plant up summer containers

After the last frost date, plant up containers with tender flowering bedding and reliable foliage plants. Line terracotta pots with polythene, taking care not to cover the planting holes, to reduce water loss through the porous sides of the pot.
