Dutch irises are one of the most widely grown types of iris in the world and are very popular both in the garden and also as cut flowers. Blooming in late spring or early summer, each upright stem produces a short succession of colourful flowers that last well after being cut too.

Plant more than you need so you can have plenty for the border and for the house. They look wonderful when planted in drifts through the border, or when allowed to form larger clumps in naturalised planting schemes. Dutch iris also make great early gap-fillers as they do not need a lot of room and so are perfect for slipping inbetween clumps of herbaceous perennials to give an early splash of colour before the perennials take on the show.

In each collection you will receive 20 bulbs of each of:

    Iris 'Gypsy Beauty'
Ruffled lavender standards and heavily veined, bicoloured falls. Grows to 55cm tall.

    Iris 'Mount Everest'
A super-stylish Dutch iris, with ice white blooms that have just a flash of yellow on their falls. Easy to grow and reliable, the flowers are great for picking and adding to the vase, which makes them popular with both the home gardener or the florist. Grows to 55cm tall.

    Iris 'Silvery Beauty'
The delicate white falls with their central lemon-yellow blotch contrast beautifully with the lavender-blue standards, making this a striking and elegant addition to any garden. Grows to 55cm tall.

  • Garden care: Plant 10cm deep and 10cm apart in naturalistic drifts in September or October in a well-drained, sunny site.

  • Harmful if eaten

Plant spring bulbs

Spring bulbs, such as daffodils and hyacinths, can be planted whenever the soil conditions allow. As a rough guide, cover them with about twice as much soil as the bulb is deep: so that a 5cm (2in) deep bulb would need a 15cm (6in) deep hole so that it
