Iris & Trollius plant combination

These two moisture-loving plants are perfect partners for the edges of a pond, or those difficult to fill bits of the garden that have poorly drainig soils that never seem to dry out.

In this collection you will receive three of each of the following plants. They are all supplied in 9cm nursery pots.

  • Iris 'Caesar's Brother': Intense violet flowers with speckled and striped markings on the throats appear in June and July among bright green, strappy leaves. Like all Siberian flag irises, this is a clump-forming plant that needs space to spread out and prefers a moist, neutral to slightly acid soil in sun or partial shade. It looks best planted in bold drifts beside water and allowed to naturalise and is particularly useful on difficult banks where it will help to prevent erosion and over time will form large clumps. Grows to 1m.

  • Trollius 'Dancing Flame': Voted best in show at the HTA National Plant Show’s New Plant Awards in 2014, this plant will put some zing into your reliably moist borders in late spring and early summer when its bright orange bowl-shaped flowers, each with a pronounced boss of upright petal-like sepals, top the tall stems. If dead-headed regularly, it should continue to produce these showy flowers over several weeks, and as it is a hardy and relatively fast grower, it will only take a couple of years to form a good-sized colony. Grows to 75cm.

  • Planting tips: Prepare the bed well by digging in lots of composted organic matter before you plant. For best results it is essential that the plants are kept well watered for the first year, particularly during warmer weather.
