  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: April and May
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Glorious, pale pink flowers open from red buds in mid and late spring, smothering the tree in a foam of blossom and concealing the small, bright green leaves. The small pea-like, golden-yellow fruit often persist into winter. This Japanese crab apple is dense and spreading in habit and makes a lovely ornamental tree for a sunny, urban site. The long-lasting fruit provide a valuable source of winter food for wildlife.

  • Garden care: When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Removed dead, diseased and crossing branches while the tree is dormant.

  • Goes well with: Myrtus communis, Clematis viticella 'Purpurea Plena Elegans', Foeniculum vulgare 'Purpureum', Sedum 'Herbstfreude', Galanthus nivalis, Crocus tommasinanus
