• Soil: deep, fertile, well-drained prefereably acid soil

• Other features: fallen leaves smell of burnt sugar when crushed
  
  This unusual and graceful tree has pretty heart-shaped leaves on slender, weeping stems. In autumn, the foliage turns spectacular shades of orange, red and yellow, and smells sweetly of burnt sugar.
  
  
• Garden care: Requires minimal pruning. Remove any broken, diseased or crossing branches in late autumn or winter. When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly.
