  Big conical clusters of lilac flowers form at the ends of the arching stems from midsummer, creating a wonderful display over several months. These flowers are lightly scented and are particularly attractive to butterflies and bees. A recently introduced variety, it is much more compact that many other forms so is perfectly suited to pots and containers.
  
  
• Garden care: Prune back hard in March, removing all of the previous year's growth to three or four buds.
