- Position: full sun
- Soil: fertile, moist but well drained
This pea has long been a firm favourite in gardens and on the show benches for its steady reliability and exceptionally generous harvest. The tall plants are sturdy and healthy, clambering up supports to produce dozens of fat, blunt-ended peas packed with uniformly plump peas with a particularly fine flavour.
- Growing Instructions:Choose a sunny, sheltered site with fertile soil and make a broad flat-bottomed drill 5cm deep and 10cm wide. Water it, then place the peas in a staggered double row before backfilling with soil. Protect from mice and slugs. Support peas as they grow with twiggy peasticks or canes and string. Peas 'fix' nitrogen from the air into nodules on their roots, so cut spent plants off at soil level instead of pulling them up so the roots can release the nitrogen back into the soil.
