  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, moist but well drained

An unusual and very beautiful pea which produces pods of deep purple among brilliant green leaves. Its tall, scrambling stems will happily clamber up wigwams in the flower border, where its mauve flowers and vivid pods add colour, height and interest to the garden as well as something delicious to pick. The flowers are edible too and look pretty sprinkled over salads.

  • Growing Instructions:Make a broad flat-bottomed drill 5cm deep and 10cm wide. Water it, then place the peas in a staggered double row before backfilling with soil. Support peas as they grow with twiggy peasticks. Alternatively, plant three or four at the foot of each cane in a wigwam and tie in as they grow. Protect from mice and slugs. Make two sowings, one in spring and another in early summer, to ensure there are peas to pick right through into autumn.
