Tall branching stems carry dense clusters of violet coloured flowers throughout the summer and well into autumn. These are wonderful for adding height and structure to the border, while still maintaining a light and airy feel. Its long flowering period, statuesque habit and ability to blend into a wide range of planting styles, has made this beautiful perennial a firm favourite.

  • Garden care:Early sowings can be started off in late winter in seed trays which are kept under glass before hardening off and planting out. Alternatively, after the worst frost have passed, sow directly into a sunny, well-prepared seed bed, thinning the seedlings out to 45-60cm as they grow. Pinching out the growing tips will encourage bushier plants to develop. Taller plants may need supporting with brushwood stems in exposed positions.
